Clothes Shopping

For high quality, good value basics, it's very difficult to beat Uniqlo these days. Merino sweaters and cardigans for £20 for example. I also bought several pairs of cotton boxer shorts in their sale recently for £1.99 a pair, and I can't say I've noticed any difference in quality to a certain other well-known high street retailer.

Even more cost-effective is to be around when clothes-addict friends are chucking out stuff that they've hardly ever worn - or if your friends are less generous than that, you could always try swapping or pooling.

If you like bargain, vintage clothes you can now buy online from Oxfam as well as on the high street:

Make your own clothes

Instead of traipsing off to the high street again, you could probably have more fun making your own clothes.

DIY-Couture sells simple guides to making your own fashion:

Our make stuff page has links to lots of blogs full of advice on making your own clothes and other things.
